Quit Smoking

quit smokingIf you have tried to give up smoking, you are aware of nicotine’s addictive power. Nicotine cravings can make it extremely difficult to quit smoking; however, acupuncture has turned a growing number of cigarette smokers into permanent ex-smokers and is a great resource to help you succeed.

How Acupuncture Works To Stop Smoking

Every time you smoke, beta-endorphins are released. Beta-endorphins are the natural hormones that make you feel good. When you stop smoking, your body continues to want the extra endorphin release, which is why you crave a cigarette during withdrawal.

Acupuncture for smoking targets specific endorphin-releasing points that help you combat tobacco cravings. Hence, it helps create a sensation which mimics your body’s response to nicotine, creating a generally sedative effect on your nervous system. Moreover, acupuncture for smoking reduces side effects of nicotine withdrawals like jitters, irritability, depression and restlessness. It also aids in relaxation and detoxification.

Auricular acupuncture (Ear Acupuncture)

In addition to acupuncture points on the body, points on the ear are stimulated by acupuncture to help stop smoking. To receive continual stimulation to the stop smoking acupuncture points, ear tacks (very small needles with an adhesive tape) can be used. They can be left in the ear points for generally 3~4 days, up to one week.

Quit Smoking Program

Our Quit Smoking Program works both on the physiological and psychological aspects of nicotine addiction. It is designed to help you discover the real reasons why you haven’t been able to quit before and to create new ways of living free from smoking’s harmful, unpleasant effects.

At the first appointment, your intake form is reviewed and discussed, and perform pulse checking and observing the tongue. We are also taking into account each person’s unique smoking habits and physical and emotional makeup, every patient’s acupuncture treatment is tailor-made and designed for him or her. The length of the program varies from 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the needs of the participant. The practitioners may reassess your conditions after 6 treatments to decide if further maintenance treatment needed.  However, you may see the change after 1st treatment.

Our Quit Smoking Program includes:

  • Individualized Counseling
  • Customized Acupuncture Treatments
  • Auricular acupuncture (Ear Acupuncture)
  • Supplements / Chinese Herbal Medicine if needed
